A year ago today...

A year ago today marks the year that Gaige was only about 24 hours away from being taken away from us to be an angel. Gaige was sick for about a month. I took him once a week for the first 3 weeks saying that he wasn't getting any better. I wasn't able to make contact with my normal doctor because he was overbooked for about a month. I was even on the call list for a cancellation. I'd take him to walk-ins and into others doctors in the same office as our normal doctor and each told me I was being too paranoid, he was teething, or he had a cold and I needed to let it run its course. On the 15th of April, I took him to a doctor and he said he just had a cold and it was the same day as mine and Justin's "Jack and Jill" bachelor/bachelorette party. I told the sitter if he's was too fussy that Id come home. My mother-in-law, after dinner, had went home and sat with the boys until we got home. Both my mother-in-law and the sitter said he was fine for them. Then in the morning all he wanted to do is stay in our bed and he woke up with a hard tummy so I thought he was constipated so I gave him a baby laxative. It help his stomach to not be as hard as a rock. He was just laying in our bed and didn't want to move. So we just let him. That night while in bed I could hear that he wasn't getting a good breathe of oxygen. So that morning I took him back to a walk in doctor and he was mad that I brought him back in and said, "here, give him this" and handed me a prescription of Zithromax. I asked the nurse when she came back in what was wrong and all she said was, "I don't know." I got it filled gave it to him and we just relaxed at home all day. That night when we went to bed, he was still having a hard time breathing. That morning, I called Justin and told him he needed to come home ASAP because there was something seriously wrong with our son and we needed to take him in to the hospital. Justin asked,"What's wrong?" I said,"Gaige hasn't eaten all day not even off of me and he hasn't had any dirty diaper not even a drop of pee." So when he got home normally both our boys would greet him and only one did! Gaige was limp in my arms and Justin swooped him up and Taylor and I followed. Justin went around the corner to his parents house to drop Taylor off and his mom walks out with him to get in the truck and on our way to the hospital we went. We got there at 5pm and were not seen until 8:15pm. I told the doctor what was going on that I gave him a laxative and so he did his evaluation on him and his oxygen level was low so he put him on a oxygen tank to help him and then ordered an x-ray. After the technician left, the doctor ran back in and up the oxygen level. Then told us that he had Pneumonia and its the worse case they have seen all year and that Marybridge is waiting for us and that an ambulance was on its way to transport us! Justin's mom and sister left at this time and said that they would be back in the morning to see us at Marybridge. I was a complete mess! I called my parents after every time the doctor came in and left to let them know. Then when we got to Marybridge, they had a room in the ER for us and the doctor came in to do her evaluation and by this time it was 6am. Justin has been awake for over 36 hours. They rushed us up to the PICU and told us we had to leave. I said, "What?! WHY?!" they said, "He has Empyema in his chest cavity and we need to put a chest tube in." I said, "What? Whats Empyema?" They said, "Its a strep-type fluid in his chest." I said, "No body told me this. Can I stay here until he's asleep?" They replied, "Good Sam knew. You can hold him until he's out." I was hysterical! I called my parents and my mom and dad both called in to work to come be with us. Then called Justin's family. They also came in after they called in as well. I proceeded to call our doctor and told him everything that has been going on and he was so awesome. He came out that night after he got off of work to come check on Gaige. It was so amazing that he did that and meant the world to our whole family! Now it is April 19th. Gaige is exactly a year and one month old. On this day, they just monitored him and let him rest and tried to get him to drink the two bottles that I pumped for him. He refused. He wanted me to hold him but I was so afraid that I might hurt him with the tube in his chest. But it was so comforting for both of us to cuddle with each other. After he fell asleep, Justin fell asleep on a car bed that hardly fits one comfortably, but we managed. I nursed him every few hours to build my supply back up because he was almost weened because I didn't want to be en-gored or leak in my wedding dress. The next day when the doctors came in to do their morning run, they told us that Gaige needed to have a blood transfusion! Really! "Could it get any worse!?" I thought to myself. I was crushed! My poor baby needing a blood transfusion. I was a complete mess! I signed all the necessary paperwork and in came the bag of blood. O-Negative is his blood type and I am O-Positive . After he got his blood transfusion he got some color back. The doctor came in and said tomorrow we were going to have a new doctor. I wasn't too happy about that. The next day came and we were introduced to a new doctor and he said, "I hear that you have a wedding on Saturday. I really don't think you will be out in time for it. I know this is the last thing you are wanting to hear but your son is very sick and he just had a blood transfusion. But we will make the call tomorrow." I was devastated but I completely understood. I called our doctor again during the blood transfusion and he came out yet again. :) We also called our pastor and he came out and said a prayer for us and prayed over Gaige that he would pull through and be able to go home soon. We all cried! The next day was Friday. We were wanting to know what the x-ray looked liked and wanted to know if the wedding was going to go on or if we were going to postpone it. The doctors came in and said, "I know you were looking forward to your wedding day but Gaige isn't able to leave." I was in tears but I had a feeling that was going to be the case. I had family flying in this day and we called them and told them they didn't have to come but they still came to see us and showed their support. Gaige was doing a lot better now that he had his transfusion but he was still on oxygen. Gaige also coughed his chest tube out and he drained 8oz of fluid out. The doctors were shocked at how much fluid he had in there! They debated on putting another one in and I prayed so hard that they wouldn't. They came back in and said, "Let's not put another chest tube in and just see how his body does with fighting it off and put him on a strong medication to get  rid of it. Gaige fought it off but it had taken about two weeks about of hospital time for it to be completely gone. The wedding day came and went and it was so beautiful that day. The only day that was not rainy! It was 75 degrees! All the nurses and doctors tried to get me to get married in my dress in the lobby :). But I couldn't do it. I should have but I didn't. But during our stay we had the best support group ever!! Justin's parents, sister, brother-in-law, his friend, Brandon and Brian, and their wives, came out to see us and then Justin's grandparents flew in from California and so did my cousins and aunts from California and Florida. My parents and older brother and sister-in-law, my niece, and one of my best friends, Brittany, came out to see Gaige from Oregon, Then my amazing best friend Sara and her fiance whom is my fiance's best friend, came out almost every single day! Along with my friend Michelle. I had numerous emails, text messages, and Facebook comments too! I love all of you who supported all of us and were there close and far away! It will never be forgotten! We were finally release from the hospital on April 26, 2010!

A Wise Person Is Patient

I tried to add this blog two nights ago but I was in need of blog construction. So a Big thank you to my friend Kavin for helping me here it is.

Tonight as Taylor was reading his daily devotions to us like we do every night the ending prayer was awesome! It reads: Dear Lord, even when forgiveness is hard, help me be a person who forgives other people, just as YOU have forgiven me. Amen
Yesterday, when Taylor got off the bus he was in tears. And me being a momma bear with daddy bear also in the truck we instantly started asking a million questions of what was wrong and what happened. As Taylor tried to compose himself enough to explain what happened I told Justin to go to the next bus stop to talk to the bus driver. As we pulled up I ran up to the doors and the bus driver said, "Taylor was sitting with a boy who was trying to pull the tape off the back of the seat and Taylor to him that we aren’tsupposed to peel off the tape, we'll get in trouble. Trying to help this little boy to not get into trouble and the older brother was sitting close and yelled at Taylor and told him to mind his own. Taylor was trying to tell the driver what was going on and she moved him up the front so he could explain what happened and Taylor was crying thinking that he was going to get into trouble. The boys tried to say it was Taylor but another little girl or someone said that it wasn’tTaylor. The driver said that she told Taylor thank you and that you are not in trouble and then she had a talk with the other two boys. Tonight after Taylor read the devotion, I re read it to my family. It reads

A wise person is patient. He will be honored if heignores a wrong done against him.-Proverbs 19:11 ICB

Is forgiving someone else an easy thing for you to do or a hard thing? Taylor answers, "Well, if they look me in the eyes and I can see and feel that they are truly sorry then it’s easy but sometimes if they don’t look me in the eyes it’s hard to forgive them." If you're like most people, forgiving others can be hard, Hard, HARD! But even if you’re having a hard time forgiving someone, you can do it if you talk things over with your parents, and if you talk things over with God. I looked at Taylor and said, "Do you understand what that means? He replies, "Yes." I said, "Let’s say one day I said something to you and it hurt your feelings you can go to daddy and tell him what I might have said that hurt your feelings and he can help you come up with a way to talk to me about it if you think you can’t come to me or tell me first. I said then you can pray to God and ask him for the strength or ask him for guidance on how to approachme if you still feel like you need help and when you feel okthen you can come to me and say," Brittany, can we have a talk?" I said, "Me and you will go to a quiet place and you can tell me what I said or did to hurt you so that I know and that I can apologize and talk it out. We are family and i love you no matter what. And he smiles and shakes his head and I said same goes for if daddy or someone else hurts your feelings we can talk about it and pray about and figure out what needs to happen. He said, "OK." with a smile. Then the book continues to read, do you find forgiveness difficult? Talk about it and pray about it. You'll feel better when you do.

I think even if you don’t believe in God this was a great lessonfor anyone. Forgiveness is a hard thing to do and like anyone else I do struggle with forgiveness but when you look at it from a Childspoint it’s truly amazing at how much forgiveness a child can have. And with this devotion tonight Taylor feels a lot better about what happened yesterday and forgives the boys who tried to do him wrong.
